UberLoop — Devlog

Hey everyone,

Since the last update (challenge shrines and boss fights getting a proper pass), a lot of the work has been about making runs feel fairer, growing the build pool, and opening the game up to more players. Here’s what landed.

Eight languages

UberLoop now supports English, Spanish, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Korean, French, and German.

Open Settings from the title screen, character select, or mid-run HUD and pick your language from the dropdown. Your choice is remembered.

Menus, upgrade names, character bios, stat labels, shrine prompts, and the controls cheat sheet update when you switch — not just the main title. Asian language options use proper fonts so text doesn’t show up as empty boxes.

More characters, more builds

The roster keeps growing. Witch Doctor is in the mix alongside familiar faces like Golem, Skeleton, and Glorb — each with different baselines (tank vs glass cannon vs crit specialist) and their own attack feel.

On the upgrade side, the shrine pool has gotten a lot deeper. Highlights you’ll actually feel in a run:

  • X-Buster — a charge shot that loops on its own; stacks make it charge faster.
  • Hot Footed — leave a burning trail while you move; stacks widen the burn.
  • Magnetic Personality — pickups start pulling toward you; a visible aura grows with stacks.
  • Lucky Pockets — more drops from slain enemies.

Plus a long tail of combat toys (split shots, buzzsaw auras, ricochets, napalm, and more) spread across tiered shrine rewards, so charge shrines, enemy shrines, and boss payouts can aim at different power bands.

Combat that reads better

A few changes aimed at “this fight is scary for the right reasons”:

Enemies hit you sooner. At high damage and attack speed, melee foes used to die before their swing landed. You now take part of the hit when the attack starts if you’re in range — pressure in crowds without changing total damage per swing.

Attack speed is attack speed. Fire-rate upgrades were bleeding into how fast your legs moved. Cadence is separated from locomotion, and characters with slower attack animations (looking at you, Golem) scale their attack animation with fire rate so shots still line up with the swing as you stack speed.

Split shots stagger. Multiple lightning-style volleys no longer all land on the same frame — reads cleaner and hits harder visually.

Fall recovery. If you clip through the floor in Grasslands, a safety net teleports you back instead of falling forever. (We’ll replace this with something cleaner later; for now you won’t lose a run to a hole in the world.)

Character select: career & achievements

Character select is more than picking a portrait.

Each hero tracks career stats across runs — kills, damage, survival time, personal bests. Open the Achievements panel to see milestone progress tied to that history. The system is built so Steam achievements can plug in later; locally, unlocks already persist.

Growth affinities on the right still preview how that character scales per level during the run you’re about to start.

Shrines & moments (building on the last pass)

On top of the challenge-shrine and boss-combat fixes from the previous devlog:

  • Charge shrines can give the camera a subtle shake while you’re charging — the ritual should feel tense.
  • Enemy shrine rushes can push past the normal horde cap for a burst — intentional “oh no” moments when you trigger a fight shrine.
  • Upgrade popups tint differently for level-up vs charge shrine vs enemy shrine so you always know what kind of reward you’re looking at.
  • Shrine loot uses clearer tier bands (baseline picks vs high-tier jackpot shrines).

Settings & polish

  • One shared settings modal everywhere (title, character select, in-run).
  • Resume and Escape behave consistently on character select — no more trapped in settings.
  • Controls button and the in-settings controls overlay translate with the rest of the UI.

TL;DR

UberLoop is wider (8 languages), deeper (more upgrades and characters), and punchier (fairer enemy pressure, cleaner attack-speed feel, career tracking). If you bounced after the shrine pass, this is a good time to jump back in — pick a language, pick a weird build, and see how far your career stats go.
